Four New 5×7′s – The Harmoniums Series

I created a set of four 5×7″ paintings in late April or early May, but couldn’t post them then, as I donated two of them to the Arthouse for the 5×7 Show, and they needed to remain anonymous for the run of the show.  I think it’s safe to post them here now.  The two I didn’t donate are available for sale; I’ll add them to my gallery and shop pages soon.

Anyway, here they are:

FineArtFridays:

I’ve been invited to band together with a group of online artists to help raise awareness of quality original artwork by actively promoting fine art through several online venues, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, blogs and Etsy.

Fine Art Friday was created by Jessica Torrant to bring awareness to independent artists online. It began on Twitter and is now expanding to many other venues. Sarah John Afana is the co-manager of the Fine Art Friday movement and together we are putting together a number of ways people can show off and share their favorite art online once a week. It’s a day of celebration, of sharing and promotion of Fine Artists online. — Sarah John Afana

FineArtFridays on Etsy:

Did you know that you can find some wonderful fine art on Etsy? You may think of Etsy as a great online venue for finding crafts, but in the past few weeks, Jessica Torrant and Sarah John Afana started a group on Etsy to help you find the great fine art that is available there. Artist members already number over 140, and include painters, printmakers, sculptors, mixed media artists, and fine art photographers. To find out more about this group and to view the member artists’ shops (and their other online links), visit this Finding Fine Art page on Etsy.

Etsy Treasuries:

An Etsy Treasury is an ever-changing, member-curated shopping gallery comprised of lists of items. The lists contain 16 items. One way you can quickly see wonderful selections of quality fine art is to view the Etsy Treasuries curated by members of the Finding Fine Art group. Visit the link to the FindingFineArt group above, or search Etsy’s “Buy > Treasury” for FineArtFriday.

Group members created (at least) five excellent fine art Treasuries today, three of which include some of my paintings.  They are:

Because Somebody Has to be Fabulous -- Fine Art Friday Treasury on EtsyFine Art Friday, curated by MDaisleyMoffitt;

Organics 05 -- FineArtFriday Treasury on EtsyFine Art Friday Favorites, curated by PaulaM;

Happy Together -- Happy FineArtFriday on EtsyHappy Fine Art Friday, curated by Tina Will;

And three from past weeks that also included my work (that I forgot to mention previously):

Planet's Edge -- FineArtFriday on Etsy

Fine Art Friday: Fine Art Treasury 2, curated by mywhatafind;

Tornado-Two-Step -- Rock You Like A Brooklyn Tornado! Etsy TreasuryRock You Like A Brooklyn Tornado!, curated by YesterdaysSilhouette;

Visit these Treasuries to see the whole collections, and check out the curators’ shops to see even more quality fine art.

A Few More New Small Painting-Sketches

I have quite a few new paintings and sketches to post.  Today I’m posting some more small painting-sketches.  These could be considered studies for future larger works, but they are also (usually) little paintings or drawings in and of themselves.

The painting above is a further study into the basic organic forms I have been working with.

Continuing to Work Small on my Organics Series

This is one of my recent acrylic sketches exploring the structure of those organic forms in my head that I am currently fascinated to understand: in these images of interconnected solids among voids in a space of ambiguous depth, how are the parts connected; what is attached to what, and where?  I paint in order to see…

I should mention that I don’t think the color is completely accurate.  Sigh!

See more of these little sketch-paintings in my Organics Gallery.  And stay tuned for more in the not-too-distant future.
