I have quite a few new paintings and sketches to post.  Today I’m posting some more small painting-sketches.  These could be considered studies for future larger works, but they are also (usually) little paintings or drawings in and of themselves.

The painting above is a further study into the basic organic forms I have been working with.

In the little painting above, I was exploring the compression of space through the use of closely related color values.

OK, this last little sketch should perhaps be called “What the Heck Happened Here?”  I really couldn’t tell you; kind of went out on a limb; maybe fell off.  Still, I kind of like it, and as usual, it suggests a direction to further explore.

It also looks good, but different, upside down from the way I painted it (ah, the beauty of square paintings!):

I’m a painter first. I sing my sorrow and I paint my joy.

  • There is something about an idea that first appears in a sketch and then grows into a larger work. Such potential blossoms here.
