We took the train to LA and back last week, and I brought some small art supplies, and tried doing a few tiny paintings on the train.

Nothing much great happened, painting-wise.  Ostensibly, one could say I painted 5 little paintings on the lurching train, but I wasn’t happy with anything I did there.

So, I am reworking them, one by one.  This is the first one I completed since returning home.

how fun is that? i love the idea. i did some pencil sketches in germany on the train — it was difficult to draw, let alone paint – but i love that you did!susan

I evolved a way of looking at paintings which was massively time consuming and deeply rewarding. For I came to recognize that it often took the first hour or so in front of a painting for stray associations or motivated misperceptions to settle down, and it was only then, with the same amount of time or more to spend looking at it, that the picture could be relied upon to disclose itself as it was….

  • I am drawn in. It feels like I’m looking down into a street scape. One with oodles of electronic utilities (parking meters, walk/don’t walk signs, traffic and surveillance cameras) and that singular storm drain. I have no idea why/what the blue dot is, but I like it!
