Every Painting Takes on a Life of its Own

Flame Kiss - Oil painting by Marilyn Fenn“Flame Kiss”
Oil on canvas

This one started out as an attempt to reproduce at larger scale a small acrylic from last summer…and it wasn’t working. I began to rework it in oil at the beginning of this year, and maybe it’s done now…not sure. I need to live with it for a bit, and see what else, if anything, needs to happen.

Top painting, then L-R (you can scroll through the whole series by clicking on any picture in the series):

  • Current incarnation
  • yesterday
  • earlier this year
  • small painting it was modeled on (quite a change, huh?)

Pretend you are dancing or singing a picture. A worker or painter should enjoy his work, else the observer will not enjoy it.

  • Reminds me a bit of the White Mountains in NH…but the tree is obviously from another planet. The brushwork is remarkable.
