New Work on Paper: Woolgathering

"Woolgathering" | Watercolor media on heavy Raffine sketch paper | 5.75" x 6" | © 2013 Marilyn Fenn -- I had a lot of fun with this one. Stayed up all night working on it, and then worked on it some more. It's surprising how long these little paintings take, but also quite enjoyable.

New Work on Paper: The Caterpillar’s Lair

"The Caterpillar's Lair" | Watercolor media on heavy Raffine sketch paper | 6" x 5.75" | © 2013 Marilyn Fenn -- Here is another small work on paper. A bit fanciful, plus I was introducing a dark background, which is a bit unusual for my work. Just trying stuff. :)

New Work on Paper: Hippie Nouveau

"Hippie Nouveau" | Ink and watercolor pencils on heavy Raffine sketch paper | 6" x 6" | © 2013 Marilyn Fenn -- So far this year, I've been working on some small studies for larger works. I may post the studies when the larger works are done, but that could be awhile. In the meantime, here is a small watercolor pencil painting on paper I did the other day. I started from the point of continuing my thoughts/impressions of Bontecou, but decided to aim for a simpler design and a slightly subdued (for me) palette. I love how this piece turned out!

Progress Photos from the Painting “The Cosmos Made Conscious”

“The Cosmos Made Conscious” | Oil on canvas | 24″ x 30″ | © 2012 Marilyn Fenn -- This painting started as an attempt to capture the beauty of a passion flower, and ended up as something completely different. I started it in acrylic, too, as my previous work had come out quite well using acrylics, but for this work, the acrylics were just driving me crazy, so I quickly switched to oils.

Progress Photos from the Painting “Food Forest”

"Food Forest" | Acrylic on canvas | 24" x 30" | © 2012 Marilyn Fenn -- Several people have told me how much they like seeing progress photos of paintings. Soooooo, I thought I'd share with you all some of my progress shots from recent works, starting with "Food Forest."

I use oil paint because it has a disobedient and mysterious nature…it engages issues of alchemy and mystery that resist the deadening ambition of the modern world to control everything.
