Scott Barber

Painting by Scott Barber

I stumbled on an exhibit by Scott Barber while taking a few days off in Galveston for our anniversary. Very keen abstract work, a lot of which had a very topographical look, was manipulated from photographs using PhotoShop into unrecognizable beautiful forms which then make their way onto the canvas (or aluminum or polyfiber, as the case may be).

East Austin Studio Tour 2006

"Burning Ice" | Oil on Canvas | 10" x 10" | © 2006 Marilyn Fenn -- The 2006 East Austin Studio Tour was fabulous!   Over 130 people came by my studio, and I even sold quite a few things.  I enjoyed meeting so many art fans, and seeing friends in this setting.  I had a lot of fun and will probably do it again next year.

Art Fairs – Not for Me

I never planned on doing art shows of the booth fair type.  I inadvertantly started doing art fairs at the end of 2002 -- sort of in neighborhood solidarity when some folks in my neighborhood started organizing the first Cherrywood Art Fair. At that time, I was reluctant to put myself and my work out in the art world.   The encouragement to participate in the first Cherrywood Art Fair was a nice, neighborly beginning to getting my work out there to be seen (and often purchased) -- and it helped to open doors for showing my work in other venues.

There isn’t much I have to say that I wouldn’t rather just shut up and do.
